Caye Caulker, Belize has tons of great places to eat. With a mix of cuisine between Carribean, Spanish, and Mayan cultures, there’s something for everyone!
There’s seafood, ceviche, street tacos, and more everywhere you go. Most happy hours start between 5-6pm, but some begin as early as 3pm. You won’t have to look far to find what you want, as the streets of Caye Caulker are lined with various restaurants and bars.
Most options are located on the northern part of the south island (towards “the Split”). You can get to these great eats by foot, bicycle, or golf cart. Evelyn and I chose to walk and ride bicycles. Check out our list below of the places we went.
Here’s a list of the best places we recommend to grab some grub in Caye Caulker, Belize:
Errolyn’s House of Fryjacks: $3-5 for a massive fry jack! These are delicious and a MUST have!
Possibly one of the best eats in Caye Caulker!
Mostly savoury, fried dough filled with a mixture of things:
Ham, cheese, chicken, eggs and beans are the options to choose from on the menu. Beef burritos are also available.
Grab it and go from the window. They have a few seats there, but you’ll find most people grabbing these to go.
After enjoying amazing fry jacks, the next stop could easily be a sports bar for a cold beverage.
Sports Bar: Great for happy hour specials, pub food & drinks, and trivia!
Happy Hour = $4 mixed drinks/beer
Trivia night every Tuesday/Thursday night – free to join and lots of prizes!
Great spot to enjoy cold drinks and finger food!
Similarly, the next joint on the list has enjoy in the name!
Enjoy Restaurant & Bar: Lobster specials, and more than meets the eye!
Grilled lobster special for $25 – Comes with rice, sautéed vegetables, and plantains. Very delicious and filling for the price. Evelyn and I were able to share this plate and we were both satisfied!
It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but there’s lots of space inside with unique decor and swings!
We shared our leftover scraps with a local/feral cat.
Nearby, there are more grilled food options at Roy’s Blue Water Grill.
Roy’s Blue Water Grill: A more upscale eatery, with pages of menu options and tablecloth dining.
From crab claws and spicy mango ribs to blackened snapper and coconut curry shrimp, there’s a good variety of quality entrees.
Various nachos, fritters, tacos, and ceviche options are also available.
The owner also has a bar next door (either The Taco Express Bar or The Backyard) that has live music, tacos, & drinks.
Even though the owner was adamant, we were too tired from the day for an evening of drinks next door.
In need of some coffee? Ice n’ Beans is here for some surprisingly good coffee concoctions.
Ice n’ Beans: A tropical coffee shop with the go slow mentality that makes you feel welcomed.
They offer great coffee, bagels, sandwiches, and croissants.
Made any way you want it, frappuccinos can also be adjusted to your liking (more/less sweet). I had one of these, no adjustments needed.
Delicious rum balls (truffles with rum and cocoa) – only $4 Belize dollars each! You have to try one of these!
Great place to lounge and/or work – Restrooms, wifi, hammocks, benches, and lounge chairs are available (first come first serve) all day.
Another place that makes you feel right at home is the restaurant Reina’s.
Reina’s: Fantastic restaurant owned by a local family!
The son, Elvis, manages the restaurant in the evening, while the dad will walk around with a cart selling amazing snacks in the morning. Jerk chicken, coconut snapper, crab cakes. and other tasty dishes are available at the restaurant at night.
Meat pies for $1.50, and banana bread for $4, only available in the morning.
The next place on the list was the first place we stopped at when arriving on the island. Another one of the best eats in Caye Caulker, Belize.
Pelican Sunset Bar: Amazing place for sunsets, hence the name!
We walked to this great bar our first night on the island, and were blown away by what we were seeing.
All kinds of ceviche (we had conch) and seafood.
Mixed drinks, cocktails, beers, and constant good vibes are plentiful.
Next, we venture over to Pasta Per Caso.
Pasta Per Caso: Homemade pasta joint run by an Italian family that lives on the island.
Reservations are required. There are two options to be seated, 5:30pm and 7:30pm.
The reservation system they use makes Pasta Per Caso one of the best eats in Caye Caulker.
There are also just two options for entrees: Meat or vegetarian for $32, as well as a beef tenderloin option.
The authentic Italian desserts can’t be passed on either. We had whatever they recommended, which was sliced Italian panforte. Topped with nuts, whipped cream, and chocolate drizzle.
Finally, we take you to the Lazy Lizard.
The Lazy Lizard: Arguably Caye Caulker’s most famous attraction due in part to its close proximity to the Split.
Located at the Split, where the south island and north island of Caye Caulker are divided by a beautiful channel.
Drinks are expensive, but it’s a fun place to hang out at and listen to music.
Great place for sunsets! The views are pretty spectacular all around.
There’s a large dock area to hang out, have drinks, and enjoy the views of the clear blue water.
The Split was originally a hand dug channel, and is now Belize’s most famous swimming area.
We had a blast trying all the various restaurants that Caye Caulker has to offer. There really is no bad option when on the island. Check out our other posts about our trip to Caye Caulker, you won’t be disappointed!
